So it's your first day in Los Santos, you know nobody and have no idea what to do. No problem, the #1 news source in the city CobbBlog will walk you through your first day in the city!
(( In this guide, text with double brackets around it like this is out-of-character help for commands and stuff.
If you're ever stuck and need out-of-character help, press T to open chat and type /report 1 [question] and a staff member will help, put as much detail as you can into the question for example /report 1 How do i take off my hat? but don't ask things you can find out in-character by talking to other players (e.g. whats the best job). You can reply to the admin with /rm [reply]. ))
1 - Using your phone
(( Press J to open/close your phone.If you can't see your mouse, then press F2. ))
You can also adjust a bunch of client-side game settings here such as chat box preferences, animation binds etc
Head to the app store and browse what's available, but in short you can:
Call a cab (Taxi app)
Call a mechanic (Mechanic app)
Check basic info (Persona app)
View your ID (E-Citizen app, I'll go through this later)
Access Bleeter & LifeInvader (social media)
Call 911 for police/medics
You can also adjust a bunch of client-side game settings here such as chat box preferences, animation binds etc
2 - Your pockets

You'll have a few starter things given to all citizens, the main one you should care about is the GPS. This allows you to view the Map in full. If you lose it or have it stolen, buy a new one at any general store (usually basket blips on the map)
3 - Get an ID
Down the road from the bus station is Mission Row police department, you'll find a machine there where you can enter your basic citizen details and take a photo for your ID. Make this your first stop.
To show your ID to someone open the E-Citizen app on your phone, and click "share via airdrop", and share to someone nearby.
(( Sharing your ID to someone makes them remember your name and your name will be above your head for them. Same if they share it to you. Or you can give someone a custom name with /alias e.g. /alias 72 Solomon Cobb where 72 would be the number above their head ))

4 - Get an outfit
Between the bus depot and the police station is a clothing store as identified by a orange shirt icon.
Head there and kit yourself out, you dont have lots of money so make your first outfit count and don't spend it all just yet (Check Wallet app and the number under "bank" is what can be spent if you're curious).
5 - Get a driving license
As I said before, bring up your phone, open the DCC app and call a cab. If you can't get one, go back to the bus depot car park and you'll be able to rent a CityBee Faggio for cheap, which you don't need a license for.
Tell then you want to go to the DMV (It's located in the bottom-left of the city).
As a new citizen they probably won't charge you, and if they do it shouldn't be much and will be automatically deducted from your bank.
Head to the doors and watch the instruction video, then take the test. (Press F2 if you can't find your mouse)
Set cruise control (( with /cruise 80 )) and then (( press L )) to toggle it on. This will limit your speed to 80km/h, which is the main speed limit in the main part of the city. The limits are as follows:
City = 80
County roads = 120
Highways = 145
If you're not a bad driver you should get a drivers license by the end!
Take a trucker test too if you want, some bigger vehicles require it, and its cheap, so good to get out of the way now.
Your licenses show under E-Citizen app below your ID.
If you don't get a regular driver license, a cop will arrest you if you drive without one.
6 - Meet people, or make money?
Now you have the basics, you could call a cab and ask them to take you somewhere populated and move on from this point just by talking to people. Good options that are common hotspots are legion square or Bennys mechanics.
Or, you could make a bit of money, head to my job guide and look at "Freelance jobs" or "Other Work". There's lots of options for quick and easy work, just call a cab and ask them to take you to one of the locations, talking to the cab drivers is very useful.
A good first job is bus driving (Job 7 & 15 in my guide) which one route to Paleto and back will net you a few thousand dollars. You'll be aiming for ~$15,000 for your first car.
If you have a group of friends joining you I'd reccomend road working (Job 9 in my guide) which is an amazing group job, or for something to sit and chill with then fishing is relaxing and decent money.
7 - I want to be a Criminal
This is important. If you commit a felony you will NOT be able to get a emergency services job for a very very long time (if at all) and it can really mess you up, it's a mistake many new people make and then regret.

So if you're looking to do a life of crime, don't go right into it. Stay legal for a few days/weeks and weigh up your options until you learn more. Especially since you get fined for crimes and can very quickly end up in debt and a downward spiral.
There's quite a few criminal activities that are obviously illegal but it's a wild world out there, some examples of things to totally avoid if you're legal include:
Robbing banks
Robbing stores
Smashing/stealing ATMS
Chopping cars
Cooking drugs at drug labs
House robbery contracts
I'm not going to explain how to do any of this, if you're actually curious then talk to some criminals.

8 - Understanding the bank
The wallet app on your phone gives a bunch of info but the main things are:
Bank Balance - This is your main spendable money
Cash - Can be lost if you wake up at the hospital, if you ever have anything here just go to an ATM and deposit it to bank.
Salary - When you do jobs your pay goes here and you also get an hourly paycheck, to claim it into your spendable bank balance go to the main LS bank, if it's closed go to a smaller Fleeca. The more money you have, the more you're taxed on new money taken out of salary.
Debt - You go into debt if you get fines when you're broke, your pay will be deducted to slowly pay this off.
You can send other people money by using the wire option in the app too, make sure the name is correct.
9 - Buying a car (and other things)
The GPS has a lot of custom blips made by the (other) news company, Weazel.
It's overwhelming at first but zoom in and you'll see things like basket blips usually used for general stores where you can buy food, drink, radios, GPS and other things.
Some car icons tend to be vehicle dealerships. There's a fair few options, but when in doubt, ask someone or call a cab to take you to a dealership to buy a new car.
You want your first car to be a cheap and basic, something to get you started like a Warrener, Dilletante, or Faggio. Something in the range of $10,000 - $15,000 is a good idea unless you really grinded a job earlier.
A useful item from general stores is a radio you can stick in your ear and tune into a frequency to communicate long-range with friends.

10 - Parking
You will want to park your car in the public parking at the end of the day.
Go to legion square (light blue garage icon), and park up your car so nobody can steal it when you head to sleep.
(( Drive to the little booth and type /park this will despawn your car for you to log out. If you don't it will stay on the map for a few hours and people can possibly steal it. ))
11 - Can't find your car?
Use the garage app on your phone to find your cars.
Mors - Down the road from legion square/parking, red car icon. This means your car was destroyed and you will pay a bit to get it back.
Impound - Police have locked it in the impound for one reason or another. Head south of Legion square, past Mors, and then to the right. You should find it on the map.
Otherwise you can locate it with the little icon in the garage app, which puts a big red car blip on the GPS, which you'll have to find.
12 - Getting a gun
You can legally buy a gun at a gun store if you acquire a gun license. To apply for one you'll want to look in the LSPD section of the government website - Click here
Some people illegally get their guns through gangs, but I'm not going to go into detail how to do that, instead talk to your local gangster!

13 - What to do if you're hurt
Bring up your phone, call 911 and call for a medic (or medic and police) and give a brief description of what you need help with. No need to put location as they'll get that automatically.
If there's no medics available, people can help each other by carrying an injured person and putting them in the trunk of a vehicle (not all vehicles can fit someone in the trunk). Then the person can be dropped off at Pillbox or Paleto hospital.
If you're dropped off at the hospital you'll realize you're still not feeling amazing, you can either eat and drink to slowly recover over time, or you can talk to the black guy at the counter and pay $3,000 to instantly feel good, or you can buy some painkillers from the left side of the counter.
Be careful with painkillers, if you take 2 within a 4 hour period going by the clock on your phone then you'll start passing out from dizzyness!
If you get a BLS license (see below) you can give basic treatment to a friend to stop them dying as fast to take them to a hospital.
(( /carrybody is the command to pick an injured person up, and look at a trunk and use the floating menu with scroll wheel and E to store them in there. And to drop them at the spot press U to bring up a little menu to drop body ))

The main 2 important websites are now apps on your phone, but if you want to visit them on a web browser then click below.
Government Site where you'll find:

3 Mechanics (Bennys, LSC, Bayview)

Journalist (Weazel)
And others (independently run companies)
Reading is overpowered, just take some time to browse especially the government site, there's a lot more there that I didn't list.

Summary
At the end of the day, this guide doesn't substitute for talking to people.
Meeting new people, getting their phone numbers, interacting with them on Bleeter, are all vastly superior to any guide. I'm one man and can only convey so much here whilst not dumping too much on you.
Most people will be willing to help a new citizen (if you're not an asshole, too loud, or too annoying) so just ask people things like:
What job would you reccomend?
What car should i get first? And where should I buy it from?
Can I get a lift to a clothing store?
If you're nice, people will be nice to you usually.
